How to set up the parent company

TL;DR: Link a client to its parent company when adding or editing a client in Uku. This creates a navigable relationship between parent and subsidiary companies, making it easier to find and manage related clients.

Who can do this

  • Users with permission to add or edit clients

  • The parent company must already exist as a client in Uku before it can be selected

Setting a parent company when adding a new client

  1. Select Clients from the main menu.

  2. Click Add client.

  3. In the Parent company field, select the existing client that serves as the parent company.

  4. Fill in the remaining required fields.

  5. Click Save.

Viewing parent and subsidiary relationships

Once a parent company is set:

  • On the subsidiary's client card, you will see an indication that the client is connected to a parent company.

  • On the parent company's client card, you will see a list of all linked sub-companies.

  • The coloured icons next to client names are clickable and allow you to navigate directly between the client cards of parent and subsidiary companies.

Troubleshooting

  • The parent company does not appear in the selection list -- The parent company must already exist as a client in Uku. Add it as a client first, then edit the subsidiary to set the parent relationship.

  • Cannot remove or change the parent company -- Open the subsidiary's client card, edit the client details, and clear or change the Parent company field.

  • Subsidiary does not appear on the parent company's card -- Verify that the Parent company field was saved correctly on the subsidiary client. Re-open the subsidiary's client card and confirm the parent company is set.
