Uku’s AI assistant is an open MCP server rather than a Claude-only feature. ChatGPT can therefore connect to the same address and sign in the same way.
Who can do this
Section titled “Who can do this”Any active member of a company on the Elite plan can connect their own account. The connection is personal: it acts as the person who signed in, with exactly that person’s access.
On the ChatGPT side you need an account where Developer mode is available. On a business workspace an owner may have to turn it on first. Which ChatGPT plans include it is OpenAI’s decision rather than Uku’s, so check OpenAI’s own article on Developer mode and MCP.
Connect ChatGPT to Uku
Section titled “Connect ChatGPT to Uku”The setup happens in ChatGPT. Uku’s part is the address and the sign-in screen.
- In ChatGPT, open Settings and turn on Developer mode. OpenAI’s article above names the exact place, which differs between a personal account and a business workspace.
- Go to Connectors and create a new connector.
- Give it the name Uku and the address
https://app.getuku.com/mcp. - Set Authentication to OAuth. Leave any client ID and client secret fields empty, because Uku registers your ChatGPT connector automatically.
- Save, then start the connection. A browser window opens on Uku’s Connect to Uku? screen, naming the app that is asking.
- Sign in to Uku if you are not signed in already, pick the company to give access to, and click Allow.
- Start a conversation and ask something simple, such as “what are my tasks today?”.
Deep research cannot use this connection
Section titled “Deep research cannot use this connection”ChatGPT’s deep research feature accepts only a narrow pair of read-only actions from a connector, named search and fetch. Uku’s assistant offers a much wider set of task-shaped actions instead, so deep research will not list Uku as a source.
Everything else works the way it does in an ordinary chat. Ask about clients, tasks and hours, and have the assistant make changes, exactly as What the AI assistant can do describes.
ChatGPT may show only some of Uku’s actions
Section titled “ChatGPT may show only some of Uku’s actions”Uku’s assistant publishes 88 actions on the full address. Assistant apps generally hold about a hundred actions in view at once, and several drop the ones past their limit silently. The app then behaves as though the missing actions never existed, with no error to tell you.
If ChatGPT seems unaware of something Uku can plainly do, connect a narrower address instead. Each one carries a slice of the assistant, and you can add more than one connector:

Connect /mcp/core alongside whichever others you want. The core address holds the shared actions the rest build on, so a connection without it is much weaker. A firm that wants ChatGPT only for time and tasks can connect /mcp/core and /mcp/work and leave the rest out.
What the assistant reaches, and what it changes
Section titled “What the assistant reaches, and what it changes”ChatGPT reaches at most what your own Uku login reaches, and in a few places less. Financial data is the one thing a personal connection does not carry by default. The checkbox on the sign-in screen is the only way to add it.
Most changes show you a preview and wait for your approval. A short list acts on the first request instead, including logging time, creating a task, uploading a file and refreshing the performance figures. Manage or remove access
Section titled “Manage or remove access”- Remove the connection in ChatGPT by deleting the connector. You can also delete its row from the key list under Settings & Apps → Public API. Deleting the row stops the connection immediately.
- The connection renews its own 24-hour key while it stays authorised, so removing it leaves no permanent credential behind.
- A deactivated member’s connection stops working. Uku checks on every request that the owner is still an active member of the company.
- A plan downgrade takes the connection down. Move your firm off Elite and a working connection goes dark straight away.
Troubleshooting
Section titled “Troubleshooting”ChatGPT reports that it cannot register with Uku
Section titled “ChatGPT reports that it cannot register with Uku”Uku registers connectors dynamically rather than issuing a client ID and secret in advance, so there is nothing to paste into those fields. Leave them empty. If ChatGPT still refuses, the connector is asking for a registration style Uku does not offer. Tell Uku support the exact message. Registration is the most likely place for the ChatGPT route to differ from Claude’s.
The sign-in screen refuses the connection
Section titled “The sign-in screen refuses the connection”Your firm is not on the Elite plan. Check under Settings & Apps → Company → Overview; Uku plans explained covers what each plan includes.
ChatGPT cannot reach Uku
Section titled “ChatGPT cannot reach Uku”A connector calls Uku from OpenAI’s servers, not from the computer you are sitting at. Uku’s address therefore has to be reachable from the public internet. A firewall rule, a VPN-only setup or a filter on incoming addresses blocks the connector while Uku still works normally in your browser.
Uku does not appear in deep research
Section titled “Uku does not appear in deep research”Deep research accepts only the narrow search and fetch pair, which Uku’s assistant does not offer. Use the connection in an ordinary chat instead.
The assistant’s answers seem limited
Section titled “The assistant’s answers seem limited”The assistant only sees what your Uku user can see. A client, task or time entry it cannot find is likely outside your access. A refusal to discuss invoice totals or rates means the connection carries no financial access.
